Breast Cancer Prevention Month

October is Breast Cancer Prevention Month, so we are raising awareness of the impact of breast cancer and its prevention. We advise that all women should do a self-exam and be aware of how their breasts are, how they normally feel, and be aware of any possible changes!

Breast Cancer Prevention Month

1st step

Start by standing in front of the mirrors, and watch the breasts and the nipples;

Check if the breast or nipple has had any change in size, color, and shape.

2nd step (You can do it lying down or in the bath with your chest lathered with soap)

Join the 3 middle fingers
Now put your right arm behind your head, and with your left hand analyze the right breast.
*Reverse for left breast.

Make gentle circular motions around the breast, squeezing slightly with your fingertips (watch out for small bumps).

3nd step (You can do it lying down or in the bath with your chest lathered with soap)

In addition to the breast, also examine the areas near the neck, shoulder, and armpit.

Check if any secretion comes out of the nipple

Final observations

1- Self-examination should not induce anxiety, should just be done so we can get to know our body better.

2- Breast self-examination must be done every month:

* From the age of 20, if menstruated:
Must palpate five to seven days after menstruation – thus avoiding the entire monthly phase in which the breast is naturally more tense;

* If you are already in menopause:
You can schedule a day on the calendar and always on the same day.

3- If you detect any changes in the breasts, you should consult a doctor. Even if you don’t detect anything, you should regularly visit a gynecologist, the attending physician, or the family’s doctor.

Breast self-examination is not a substitute for these consultations.

4- Breast self-examination can also be performed by men since 1% of all breast cancer diagnoses happen in males.
